We asked 5 AI platforms 150 questions about AI visibility. Here is who they named

On 7 October 2026 we asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok 150 questions a buyer might ask about AI visibility tools. 750 answers came back. Otterly.AI was named in 148 of them, Peec AI in 129 and Profound in 128. The answers cited 2,875 different websites.

The tools the AI platforms named most

Counted as the number of answers (out of 750) that named the tool at least once, under any spelling. All products of one company count as that company. Counted from the published CSV on 12 October 2026.

Tool Answers naming it
Otterly.AI 148
Peec AI 129
Profound 128
Semrush 117
Ahrefs 87
AthenaHQ 65
Scrunch 65
SE Ranking 47
Rankscale 39
LLM Pulse 33
Writesonic 28

Every brand in every answer was counted the same way, by the same rules. The list shows what the AI platforms say today; it is not a ranking of quality.

Finding 1: two kinds of question, two very different answers

We grouped the 150 questions into ten topics, in question number order. Definitions are Q001 to Q012, tools Q013 to Q032 and alternatives Q033 to Q046. Getting named is Q047 to Q064, how the AI platforms choose Q065 to Q076, tracking Q077 to Q088 and agencies Q089 to Q106. Technical is Q107 to Q114, is SEO dead Q115 to Q120, and the UAE Q121 to Q150. The topics split cleanly in two.

Kind of question Example Answers naming any brand (of 5 per question) Different brands named per question
"Which tool" and "who": tools, alternatives, agencies, tracking, the UAE "What are the best AI visibility tools in 2026?" 2.1 to 4.4 13 to 23 on average
"What, how, why": definitions, how to get named, how the AI platforms choose, technical, is SEO dead "How do I get my business recommended by ChatGPT?" 0.1 to 0.6 0 to 3

When a buyer asks which tool to use, the AI platforms name many tools, and the list changes from platform to platform. When a buyer asks how something works, the AI platforms almost never name a tool; they cite guides and blog posts and answer in their own words.

For a company that wants to be named, that means two different jobs. On "which tool" questions, be on the pages the AI platforms read: the lists, the directories, the comparison pages. On "how" questions, be the page they quote.

Finding 2: the "which tool" answers are wide open

On the "which tool" topics the five platforms named 13 to 23 different brands per question on average, and as many as 52 on a single question ("What are the best GEO tools?"). Most of those tools appear in only one or two answers. On "Is there a white label AI visibility tool for agencies?", Rank Prompt and LLM Pulse were in 4 of the 5 answers, Otterly.AI in 3 and Geneo in 2. On "Which AI visibility platform supports many client brands in one account?", Peec AI was in 3 answers and no other tool in more than 2. On "Which AI visibility tool tracks Claude and Grok as well as ChatGPT?", Profound was in 2 of the 5 answers, two answers named no tool, and no other tool was in more than one.

No tool owns these questions yet.

Finding 3: each platform reads different websites

Of the 2,875 websites cited, no single site was cited in more than 94 answers. The platforms read different places.

Platform Cited most
Perplexity semrush.com (56 answers), linkedin.com (55), blog.hubspot.com (51), searchengineland.com (33)
ChatGPT youtube.com (18), techradar.com (14), amicited.com (9)
Gemini semrush.com (24), reddit.com (22), youtube.com (18), medium.com (17)
Grok arahi.ai (32), pepper.inc (17), llmpulse.ai (15), small blogs
Claude tool blogs: dageno.ai, rankability.com, otterly.ai, llmpulse.ai

Two details stood out. Of the 125 LinkedIn citations, 83 were short posts and 38 were long articles. And on the 30 questions about the UAE, the answers cited Gulf News, Zawya, MENAFN and Khaleej Times, and websites whose address ends in .ae were cited 202 times in those answers.

Finding 4: the pages that get cited, by type

Across all 7,593 citations: the most common top folder in a cited address was /blog (2,004 citations). Addresses containing "best" were cited 828 times, "how-to" 414, "alternative" 325, "-vs-" 200, "glossary" 25. The page type follows the question: "which tool" questions cite "best" pages (379), alternatives questions cite "alternative" pages (290), "how do I get named" questions (Q047 to Q064) cite "how-to" pages (181).

One note on Gemini: it reports almost every source as a bare website address (99.8% of its citations), so Gemini's citations say nothing about page types. So the page-type counts above come almost entirely from the other four platforms.

How we did it

Full method on the methodology page. In short: 150 questions, written the way buyers type them and grouped into ten topics; each question sent to the five platforms through their APIs with web search available, asked as a buyer in the UAE; every answer stored word for word with the pages it cited; a second model marked which brands each answer named and in what position.

Limits

This is one run on one day. The AI platforms give different answers on different days, so a single count is a sample, not a fixed fact. We asked through each platform's API, which can use different models or settings from the consumer apps. The questions were written in English and asked as a UAE buyer; a buyer in London or Mumbai may see other brands.
