How can I check what ChatGPT says about my brand?

Ask ChatGPT the questions your buyers ask, not your brand name, and write down who it names, in what order, and which pages it cites. Do the same in Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, because each platform reads different websites and names different businesses.

By hand, the first check needs no paid tool. A document and the five platforms are enough.

The method suits an owner or marketer who has asked "Does ChatGPT recommend my business?" and wants to see the answers before buying anything. 64% of UAE residents use generative AI (Rest of World, January 2026). For the background, read what GEO (generative engine optimisation) means, or see all our guides on AI answers.

Step 1: write five buyer questions

A buyer question is what a stranger types before they spend money. It does not contain your brand name.

It usually has three parts. The service. The place. The need.

Example: five questions a dental clinic in Dubai might write.

  1. Which dental clinic in Dubai is good for implants?
  2. Best dentist in Dubai Marina for children
  3. How much does teeth whitening cost in Dubai, and where?
  4. Dental clinic in Dubai that accepts my health insurance
  5. Is there a dentist in Dubai open on Friday?

Now write your own five for your business. Pick the services that bring you customers today. Use the words your customers use when they call or email you. Five questions is enough to start.

Step 2: ask all five AI platforms

Open each of the five platforms in a new chat. Ask question 1 in each one, with exactly the same words.

Do not correct the AI. Leave out any extra line such as "I mean my business". A buyer would not write that.

For each answer, write down three things:

What to record
Businesses named Every business the answer names, in the order it names them
You Whether your brand is in the list, and its position (first, third, not at all)
Pages The sources or links the answer shows. Perplexity lists them with its answers. ChatGPT shows them when it searched. The other three show them for some answers

Copy each full answer into your document as well. The exact words are useful in step 4.

Then ask question 2, and so on. Five questions on five platforms gives you 25 answers.

Step 3: fill in the table

One row per question, one column per platform. The first two cells below show an example of how to write it.

Question ChatGPT Claude Gemini Perplexity Grok
1 Example: named 3rd, 4 brands, 6 pages Example: not named
2
3
4
5

Count the answers that name you. If 5 of the 25 answers name you, your score is 20 out of 100. If a platform gives an error instead of an answer, leave that answer out and count only the real answers. An error is not an answer, so it does not count for you or against you. The named.ae score starts from the same count, with errors left out, and gives more points for being named first.

Write the number down. Next week, you compare the new count with this one.

A score of 0 means no answer named you this time. The table still shows who was named instead, and which pages were read. That is where you start.

Step 4: read the pages, not only the names

The names show where you stand. The pages show why.

Every page an AI cited is a page it used for that question. Make one list of every page cited across your 25 answers. Then go through it in this order:

  1. Mark the pages that name a competitor and not you. If three platforms cited the same comparison page and your brand is not on it, that is the first page to work on.
  2. Note the "best" lists in your field. Find out who runs each list and how a business gets on it.
  3. Look for guides your competitors wrote that were cited. Every such guide answers a question you could answer on your own site, with better facts.
  4. Check your own pages that were cited. Make sure every fact on them is correct and current.

Start with the lists. About 44% of the pages ChatGPT cited for software, product and agency questions were "best X" lists (Ahrefs, December 2025, 26,283 source pages). A 2026 study of AI search citations found that 81% of cited lists sat on other people's sites (AirOps and Digital Applied, 2026). The list you need to be on is often one you do not own.

What our scan of 7 October 2026 showed

On 7 October 2026 we asked the five platforms 150 buyer questions about AI visibility tools, as a buyer in the UAE. The 750 answers cited 2,875 different websites. The five platforms read different places.

Platform Sites it cited most on 7 October 2026
Perplexity semrush.com (56 answers), linkedin.com (55), blog.hubspot.com (51)
ChatGPT youtube.com (18), techradar.com (14)
Gemini semrush.com (24), reddit.com (22), youtube.com (18)
Grok arahi.ai (32), pepper.inc (17), small blogs
Claude blogs of software companies

In our 7 October 2026 scan, recounted 13 October 2026, LinkedIn was cited 125 times; 83 of those were short posts.

Your questions are about a different subject, so your list will show other sites. What carries over is the method. If you check ChatGPT alone, you see 5 of your 25 answers and one platform's sources. The full data, with a CSV file, is in our research report on 150 questions to 5 AI platforms.

What to change on each page is covered in our guide to getting recommended by ChatGPT.

Why does ChatGPT give a different answer each time?

ChatGPT does not keep one fixed answer about your business. It writes each answer when you ask, and it may search the web at that moment.

If you repeat the same question tomorrow, the list of names may change. A colleague who asks today may see other names than you.

That is not a fault in your method. One check is one sample. The full result each week, who is named and who is missing, shows the trend over time.

Step 5: check again every week

Keep the same five questions. Every week, copy the table onto a new page and write the date at the top.

When you change something, for example a page on your website or your entry on a list, write that date down too. The AI platforms read the web on their own schedule, so nobody can promise a date. The weekly check shows the trend either way.

You can also let a tool ask the questions for you. named.ae asks your five questions on all five platforms, records every answer word for word with the pages each AI read, and gives you a score out of 100; the free scan does this once, with no card.

Limits

A check by hand shows what one person saw on one day. A buyer in another city, or on another device, may see a different answer. named.ae asks through each platform's API. Those answers can differ from the app on a phone, so we show the exact answer we received and its sources. Look at the pattern across many answers, not at one answer. Nobody can promise what ChatGPT will say about your business.

Questions people ask next

Is there a free tool to check what ChatGPT says about my business?

Yes. The named.ae free scan asks 5 questions on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok and shows all 25 answers word for word, in 2 to 3 minutes. It needs no card, and you see the report without an account.

Should I ask ChatGPT about my brand by name?

Ask it too, but you learn less from it. A buyer who already knows your name does not need ChatGPT to find you. The question that matters is the one a stranger asks, such as 'best clinic in Dubai' or 'best agency for my company'.

Why does ChatGPT give me a different answer than my colleague?

The AI platforms vary their answers from person to person and from day to day, and they may search the web at the moment of the question. Ask the same question three times and keep all three answers. The pattern across them is the result.

Which AI platform should I check first?

ChatGPT, because it is the name buyers know. Then check the other four. In our scan of 7 October 2026 the five platforms named different brands for the same question, so one platform is not enough.

Does the free ChatGPT give the same answers as the paid one?

We have not measured the difference. The two can run different models, so the names can differ. Check with the version your buyers are most likely to use; if you are not sure, check both.

How often should I check?

Weekly, after the first check. One check by hand tells you where you stand today. Answers change, and the same questions asked every week show whether the AI platforms name you after your changes.
